To futz: to handle or deal with, esp. idly, reluctantly, or as a time-consuming task

Sorry for any inconvenience, gonna be futzing with the site for awhile. Hopefully I won’t break it beyond repair.

It’s my motto, ‘No Baboons in Mime.’

baboon2.jpg“What the hell is that?” you might being asking. To which the answer, of course, is “a baboon with a fanny pack.”

Sometimes it really is best just not to ask.

I got a call a week or so ago from my sister asking if I could possibly crochet a baboon…with a fanny pack. Apparently, she and my youngest sister were watching a show on the Discovery Channel or something about baboons that were terrorizing communities. People would open car doors to find themselves face to face with a baboon, tourists were having their fanny packs snatched by baboons looking for a snack (a Snicker perhaps), etc etc. This was the birth of yet another of my sisters’ “bits”, of course telling the story from the side of the baboons who were just trying to be friendly and who sound surprisingly similar to Cleveland Brown from Family Guy.

My family is made up of some very…interesting individuals. <3baboon1.jpgbabooncloseup.jpgbaboonass.jpgbaboonfannypack.jpg

Ack! I didn’t realize…

cow.jpghow long it had been since I posted. I have done a few projects since October obviously, but haven’t gotten around to photographing many of them yet.

However here is one I put off posting deliberately because it was being given as a gift.

I don’t know if he was ever given a name by his new family, but I like to think he was given a name befitting him. Something like…Angus Cornelius Delacroix perhaps.

Opossum, etc

possum.jpgA little possum I made for a friend of our’s daughter who has a thing for possums at the moment. I have been meaning to post it for awhile and just never quite got around to it.

I also made myself a little cardigan/shrug-like thing for my brother’s wedding that is coming up. I have yet to block it though, so pictures of that will still have to wait. ;)

I am working on a cow for a friend of my mom’s right now and a baby blanket shaped like a star for a friend’s god daughter.

Also made two baby afghans for family with new babies, but I just plain forgot to take pictures before giving them. :/

Whatever

Not worth the drama. You can rest assured that their names and/or actions will not be passing these lips (or fingers, as the case may be) again.

As far as I am concerned, they no longer exist.

The End

Rebel Base Books????

More like the motherfucking Empire.

After reading this entry at dooce’s and doing all of 10 secs of research (google news ftw) I find this.

I don’t really care what the circumstances of why the contract wasn’t signed are, when a company (especially one with a half-assed website) can sue someone for NOT signing a contract, the world has gone completely fuckwards. Lrn2notopenyourbigmouthuntilthepapersaresigned.

Reality is to television as accountability is to the Bush Administration

I really have got to embroider that on a pillow or something so that I can cling to it as a reminder when watching “my shows”.

Let’s start with Rockstar:Supernova. Ok first of all, that’s a really lame name for a band, just had to get that out of the way. Second, if the song they played last night was any indication of what is to come, their future can only be summed up with four letters….ROFL. That’s not what I was expecting to come out of that band at ALL. A little too Armageddon-era Aerosmith (sans the catchiness), not enough…Audioslave? Or hell, even any of their previous bands. Just sooooo commercial and pop-py and not good.

That’s strike 1 (name) and 2 (horrible song for first performance). What may have been strike 3 for me was voting off Zayra over fucking-Patrice (hereafter to be addressed solely as F-Pat). Let’s compare, shall we?

Zayra = interesting, risky, full of personality, can sing although her accent is still a bit thick for mainstream.
F-Pat = boring, flat, vanilla, /raspberry
Here’s the real irony, I am actually considering buying Zayra’s CD (my first in like…a decade) and am not even considering buying theirs at this point. Of those left:

Dilana - Was a big fan for the first few weeks. Loved her rendition of Zombie. But something about this past week’s performance just made me weary of her. I question whether I could listen to her for an entire album without the novelty it being covers. Meh.

Lukas - Looove him. Always kinda have a soft spot for the “freaks” of the world, but the boy can sing AND perform. And he is Canadian…always worth a few points. See below for reason I will be trying to get him voted off.

Magni - If Jason tires of me and my backup plan of having Kyan Douglas’ baby (to be fathered by The Fab Five in it’s entirety) falls through and his wife ends up not being the sweetpie she appears to be but really a heinious hose-beast, then I would totally be all over that. I mean COME ON! He’s Icelandic, has an accent but not one so thick you can’t understand what the fuck he is saying and has dedicated like every song to his wife and baby and he can sing and play guitar. Definitely Plan C material. Will also be trying to get him kicked off.

Ryan - He can sing, is getting better on the performing without looking like he is having some kind of autistic episode. But there is just something there…a glimmering of J.D. Fortune and this guy that used to try to tag along with my brother and his friends, a faux intensity/aloofness/depth that is attempting to disguise a need for approval. Which, because of some genetic flaw that makes me loath those with a need for approval, means that I can’t totally endorse him.

Storm - She kinda bothers the fuck out of me. Something about the way she rolls her eyes and sings out of the side of her mouth makes me want to stab her in the neck. Plus I have a feeling she isn’t the genuinely nice person she tries to portray. If she pulled it off I would be forced to admire her for it but she doesn’t so it makes it that much more pathetic.

Toby - Poor poor Toby. I do think he is the genuinely nice person he comes off as, therefore he should probably be kept as far away from Tommy Lee as is humanly possible.
Now for the plan: Jason and I have decided that, like last season, there are those competing that are wayyy too good to let them be part of “Supernova” (just felt like it needed quotes), so we will be attempting to get them voted off in the coming weeks. I suggest if you feel as we do, you do the same. Vote F-Pat!

And to make matters worse, that same night Alison was voted off Project Runway instead of Shit-Nuts-Vincent. What the motherfuck??!??!?! Alison has been solid every week and while, yes, her dress did accentuate her model’s thicker waist and the hair choice was a bit off-putting, at least it wasn’t THIS!!!!111oneoneone I think I made that exact same thing when I had a mishap with some spray adhesive, a roll of kraft paper, and an over-turned garbage can. Maybe I should submit an application next season. Then again I am not batshit-crazy so I probaby wouldn’t stand a chance with those fucktards, Nina and Mikey. And don’t even get me started on Heidi and some of those outfits she wears.

*Don’t think that I am ignorant of the fact or anything but ashamed that my first post under “current events” and “ravings” is about reality tv.

More projects…

Should have named the current incarnation of this blog “Pictures of stuff I have made”. I promise I will be adding some actual like opinions and crap soon, until then:

lambandmouse.jpg The little lamb and mouse I made my mom. I know you can’t tell from the picture, but the “wool” is made of individual french knots. I was originally gonna make it out of some black boucle I have lying around, but quickly realized I do not yet possess the skills to work with it. After about 30 seconds all I ended up with was a wad of yarn that resemble little more than a rat’s nest. For the mouse I used this pattern. It was super easy and took no time at all. I didn’t use a pattern for lamb, just freehanded it. I actually started out making a more rounded face for it, but after getting it done, I didn’t care for it at all, so decided to try more of a snout. Before I got the wool done, I wasn’t sure you would be able to tell it was a lamb (look more mouse-like), but I think it turned out decently. Would like to work more on a lamb face though.

paintandhamsterguy.jpg Just finished these little guys a couple day ago. They don’t names yet, just PaintGuy and MrHamsterGerbilGuineaPigthingyGuy. MrHamsterGerbilGuineaPigthingyGuy is suppose to be holding some kind of nut in his hands, but I didn’t have any felt, so I just made a mini-cupcake. Our friends’ daughters seem to get a kick out of it yesterday. :) They were made with patterns from the Japanese Amigurumi book my mom bought me (early) for my birthday!! (Moms rock!) Of course, all the text is in Japanese so if there is a symbol in the pattern I am not familiar with I kinda have to guessimate what it means, but the patterns themselves are pretty self-explanatory and there are load of pictures and stuff that make it easier to figure out. The graphical patterns are definitely my favorite kind, makes it so much easier to visualize the finished product. My goal now is to get all of them.

caseopen.jpgcaseclosed.jpgI also took a little foray into sewing recently. Historically speaking, I am handsewer, but I got a machine for Christmas and other than hemming some curtains here and there, had yet to put it to good use. After losing the crochet hook I was looking for in the couch cushions or at the bottom of my sewing bag for the gojillionth time, I felt it was time for a needle case. The material is from the remnant bin at Walmart. I had originally looked for cheapo fabric because I wasn’t sure how well it was gonna turn out considering how long it has been since I attempted any real sewing and never without a pattern of SOME kind. But I am actually pleasantly surprised at how well it came out. Sure it is a bit crooked and somehow one side of my flap ended up significantly shorter than the other, but Hey, it functions!

apron.jpg Modeled by the chair because I am too lazy to change out of my OMGIT’SNINETHOUSANDDEGREES outfit to take a picture of myself. Hidesight being 20/20, for my first machinesewn garmet, I should have picked a pattern with straighter seams. But I just loooved this apron pattern from Paisley Pincushion (Busy Bias). And of course, since we are so freaky like this it doesn’t even surprise us anymore*, my mom just happened to have the pattern already and let me borrow it. I still think it turned out really cute and I love it to death, but there is probably not a single inch of seam anywhere on it that is right. The seam around the edges (sorry dont’ know terminology :/ where you are like sewing just outside the seam to tack down the same allowance and/or for decoration. Topstitching? Understitching? something like that) varies somewhere between stitching-in-the-ditch (if the ditch were the edge of the fabric) and 1/4″. Helen Keller probably could have done just as good a job. ;) It would start off pretty well and then get progressively faster and not realize it until it was too late and I was completely off track. Oh, well, all learning experience.

afterchair.jpg Last one, I promise. ;) I sooo fell in love with the fabric I made the apron out of that I now want to cover our dining chairs in it. I have always disliked the fabric that came on them, but never could quite figure out what I did want. I made up a prototype (on the left) and really like it (Jason is less convinced…but oh well, he will come around ;p), so my mom was kind enough to pick up the rest of the fabric for me (only had it at the Walmart in Many, the craft section in Natchitoches sucks balls) and is letting me borrow her staple gun, so update on that soon hopefully. Oh yeah, a before picture of the chair, blech.

I think that is all I have for now.
*Seriously, we used to think it was because we lived together, etc, but we still do wierd crap like email each other the same website on the same day.

I mock you with my monkeypants!

EllaMonkeyfront.jpgIntroducing my newest creation, Ella Von Monkeypants!

I made her almost entirely without a pattern. I saw almost because I did use Crochetme.com’s Amigurumi Dude pattern for the head as a starting point.ellamonkeyback.jpg

Overall, I am pretty happy with the result. My proportions are off in some places, but in those places I just couldn’t pull it out and redo it anymore, so it stayed. ;)

EllaMonkeyFeet.jpgIt also took me waaayyy longer than it should have. Partly because the whole no-pattern-ca-barely-crochet-let’s-redo-the-face-eight-times thing and partly because I originally had her in different clothing I had crocheted (a skirt and hat) but HATED them after I got them done. They were entirely too…county fairish. Blech. But I quite like the ones she has on now.

Next up is either little brown mice or a black sheep for my mom. I have some black boucle I am dying to try out.
